U.S. Marshals Arrest Associate of Convicted Ponzi Schemer

For immediate release

Miami, FL – Deputy U.S. Marshals arrested on Tuesday night a man who pleaded guilty to fraud but failed to appear for his sentencing hearing in 2018.

Eddy Marin, 58, who was a close associate of convicted Ponzi schemer Scott Rothstein, had been on the run more than two years.

In 2018 the FBI arrested Marin on securities fraud charges, and he pleaded guilty before U.S. District Court Judge Darrin Gayles. Marin was released on a $100,000 bond pending his sentencing.

On July 23, 2018, Marin was scheduled to appear before Gayles to be sentenced but failed to appear for the hearing. An arrest warrant was signed the following day charging Marin with failure to appear.

On September 5, 2019, the judge sentenced Marin in absentia to serve 210 months in federal prison upon his arrest.

Deputy U.S. Marshals, assisted by officers from the Fort Lauderdale Police Department, tracked Marin to a house in the 2600 block of NE 30th Street in Fort Lauderdale, where he was believed to be hiding. Marin was taken into custody without incident.

At the time of this press release, Marin was being held at the Broward County Jail.

Mr. Marin is just one of many whose run from justice is cut short by our Fugitive Operations Division. I am extremely proud of the work done by the men and women of the United States Marshals Service and the various law enforcement agencies we work with, said Gadyaces Serralta, U.S. Marshal for the Southern District of Florida.
