U.S. Marshals Arrest Three Homicide Suspects in the Cleveland Area Today

Cleveland, OH – Today, members of the U.S. Marshals Northern Ohio Violent Fugitive Task Force (NOVFTF) arrested three individuals wanted for murder. George Smiley, 52, and Deon Hudson-Bey, 21, were both wanted by the Cleveland Division of Police for separate homicides and Deshawn Wright, 19, was wanted by the Euclid Police Department for aggravated murder.

According to the Cleveland Division of Police, on February 12, 2024, George Smiley shot a male victim 15 times while the victim was sitting in his vehicle near E. 71st Street and Cedar Ave. in Cleveland. The victim succumbed to his gunshot wounds a couple days later at the hospital. Today, task force members arrested Smiley at a residence in the 7000 block of Morgan Ave. in Cleveland. A firearm was seized from the residence following the arrest.

On July 18, 2023, officers from the Cleveland Division of Police were dispatched to a residence in the 8900 block of Union Ave., Cleveland, where they located Hakin Gaines, 35, who had suffered gunshot wounds to the chest. Gaines was allegedly attacked by Deon Hudson-Bey following a verbal argument that ultimately escalated to Hudson-Bey shooting Gaines multiple times and then stealing Gaines vehicle and feeling the scene. Gaines was pronounced dead at University Hospital later that day. Today, members of the fugitive task force arrested Hudson-Bey at an apartment near the 400 block of Richmond Park East. A firearm was also seized from the residence following the arrest.

According to the Euclid Police Department, on January 5, 2024, officers responded to a residence on Seabrooke Ave. in Euclid and located a 17-year-old male victim that had suffered multiple fatal gunshot wounds. On January 18, 2024, the Euclid Police Department arrested Meon'te Robinson, 22, in connection with the incident. Today, the NOVFTF arrested Deshawn Wright, at a residence near the 15300 block of Yorick Ave. in Cleveland.

U.S. Marshal Pete Elliott stated, “Three violent fugitives and two firearms were taken off the streets in the Cleveland area today due to the efforts of the men and women of our violent fugitive task force. Our officers risk their lives daily for the citizens of northern Ohio.”
