U.S. Marshals Task Force Arrests Hagerstown Man Wanted for Attempted 1st Degree Murder

Charles Town, WV – The U.S. Marshals Mountain State Fugitive Task Force arrested on May 20 a Hagerstown, Maryland, man wanted for first-degree murder and other charges stemming from a January shooting in Charles Town.

Malichi Leech, 19, was charged in Jefferson County May 15 with attempted first-degree murder, four counts of wanton endangerment, and conspiracy resulting from the Jan. 28 shooting on MLK Jr. Boulevard.

On May 17, the Charles Town Police Department asked for the assistance of the U.S. Marshals Mountain State Fugitive Task Force in apprehending Leech. Upon receipt of the case, investigators developed information indicating Leech was in Hagerstown. On May 20, Leech was located and taken into custody without incident at a residence on Wayside Drive.

“Our panhandle communities in West Virginia are frequently terrorized by out-of-state violent criminals”, said Acting U.S. Marshal Terry Moore.  “The Marshals Service’s partnerships with state and local agencies allow task force members to extend their jurisdiction anywhere in the country, bringing those offenders to justice.”

Agencies involved in the arrest were: Berkeley County Sheriffs Office, Charles Town Police Department, Hagerstown Police Department, Maryland State Police, and United States Marshals Service.

Leech was booked into the Washington County Detention Center to await extradition back to West Virginia.  Additional information on this case can be obtained from the Charles Town Police Department.
