U.S. Marshals Service in Puerto Rico Arrests State Suspect Wanted in Death of 4-Month-Old

San Juan, PR – The U.S. Marshals Service Puerto Rico Violent Offenders Task Force and Puerto Rico Police Department Aug. 9 arrested in Aguada a man wanted on state charges of illegal possession of a firearm and who is a suspect in a May 21 shooting incident that left a baby dead and two adults injured.

David Gonzalez-Olmo, 29, of Puerto Rico, was arrested without incident in Aguada.

Caguas Superior Court Judge Sonya Nieves Cordero issued an arrest warrant on July 31 against Gonzalez-Olmo, charging him with the illegal possession of a firearm in Caguas, with a bail of $200,000.

According to a PRPD-Caguas investigation, on July 29 Gonzalez-Olmo, while driving on Degetau Avenue next to the Intersection of Street 788 in the town of Caguas, had a weapon in his possession without a license. Gonzalez-Olmo is a suspect of a shooting May 21 in the town of Cayey that resulted in the death of a 4-month-old baby and two individuals injured.  

According to preliminary information, several subjects in a Corolla shot at the victims, leaving the baby's father injured as well as another man identified as Víctor Torres Martínez, 26, who had been injured in a double murder in a nightclub in that same town. Gonzalez-Olmo is an alleged leader of the criminal organization “Los Viraos.”  

Caguas Superior Court Judge Evianne Mártir Hernández determined on Aug. 13 cause for arrest and indicted Gonzalez-Olmo with multiple charges for the murder of the newborn Anneliz Zoé Bonilla Burgos, with a bail of $800,000. Judge Mártir Hernández ordered Gonzalez-Olmo to be send to jail because he could not provide bail.

“We want our citizens to know that the U.S. Marshals Service in Puerto Rico continues its strategic and joint work alongside state law enforcement agencies,” said Wilmer Ocasio-Ibarra, U.S. Marshal for the District of Puerto Rico. “We will not relent in our efforts to pursue those who think they can evade the law. They may try to hide but be assured that the U.S. Marshals Service will not stop until they are found and brought to justice.”

Ocasio-Ibarra also took the opportunity to acknowledge the significant contributions of the Deputy Marshals and the Puerto Rico Police Bureau in capturing these violent fugitives and their commitment to our communities. 

“We have dismantled this criminal organization, and we found and brought to justice these criminals responsible for the death of a 4-year-old girl,” he said.
