Operation Making D.C. Safe and Beautiful Reaches Milestones

For immediate release

Washington, DC – The combined federal and local law enforcement efforts of Operation Making the District of Columbia Safe and Beautiful reached significant milestones with more than 1,000 arrests and 100 illegal firearms seized, after just 19 operational days in Washington, D.C.

Federal, state and municipal partners have arrested 1,094 individuals, including six wanted for homicides, 103 on weapons charges and 128 for narcotics offenses. Teams have also removed 115 crime guns from individuals who illegally possessed the weapons.

“These milestones reflect the dedication of law enforcement officers from all levels working together to make the District of Columbia safe and beautiful again,” said Gadyaces S. Serralta, Director of the U.S. Marshals Service and commander of the federal response. “Consider how many crimes we have prevented or more importantly how many lives we have saved by getting illegally possessed guns out of the hands of criminals.”

The U.S. Marshals Service also has set up a tip line for residents who could receive $500 for sharing information with law enforcement that leads to an arrest. Visit www.usmarshals.gov/tips for details.
