Memphis, TN – A high-speed vehicle pursuit Tuesday night resulted in a man’s death.

At approximately 9:30 p.m., the Memphis Safe Task Force initiated a traffic stop in the 3100 block of Madewell Street after observing a vehicle driving at a high rate of speed within the Greenbriar Apartment complex.  As officers initiated the stop, the suspect increased speed, resulting in an approximately five-mile vehicle pursuit, during which the suspect ran through multiple traffic signals.  Upon running a red light at Warford Street and James Road the suspect vehicle struck a box truck and then a light pole.

The suspect was taken to Regional 1 Hospital, where he was pronounced deceased at approximately 10:30 p.m. After identifying the suspect, police discovered he had an active warrant for aggravated assault. A pistol was also recovered from the vehicle. The suspect’s name is being withheld pending notification of next of kin.

The driver of the box truck was uninjured.  A passenger in the truck was taken by ambulance to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

The MSTF also executed 47 criminal arrests Tuesday, seized five illegal firearms and recovered two missing children.

Deltorio Chabbas Campbell, 24, was arrested on a Shelby County Sheriff’s Office warrant for criminal attempt murder, possession of a firearm to commit felony, theft and vandalism. Campbell is a suspect in the Jan. 4 shooting incident in the 4100 block of La Farge, which sent one man to the hospital with multiple gunshot wounds.

A 17-year-old juvenile was arrested on a warrant for threat of mass violence on school property in the 1400 block of Pope Street stemming from an incident April 23, 2025, in which the Shelby County Sheriff’s Office, responding to a call at Douglass High School, arrested the juvenile and he allegedly threatened to shoot the school following a verbal altercation with other students and school officials.

Marcus Dotson, 36, a known gang member, was arrested for possession of a controlled substance with intent to distribute following a search warrant at a residence in the 100 block of East Biscayne Street. Officers seized 61.2 grams of fentanyl, 427.2 grams of methamphetamine, 4.41 grams of cocaine, a 9 mm handgun, $3,443 in cash, and a 2018 Hyundai Sonata.

Since the launch of the Memphis Safe Task Force initiative in September 2025, officers have made 5,192 arrests and seized 836 illegal firearms, as well as substantial quantities of narcotics, and related contraband. These enforcement actions reflect a sustained commitment to reducing violent crime and removing dangerous weapons from Memphis neighborhoods.
