Memphis Safe Task Force Wednesday Update: 51 Arrested, Including 3 Juveniles, 9 Guns Recovered

Memphis, TN – The Memphis Safe Task Force on Wednesday executed 51 criminal arrests, including three juveniles, and recovered nine illegal firearms.

Of note:

A 17-year-old was arrested in the 300 block of Elder Road on a warrant for attempted first-degree murder stemming from a Jan.28 incident in which the juvenile fired into a home and struck a 14-year-old girl in the neck. Officers conducting a consent search at the Elder Road home recovered the suspected attempted murder weapon, a Veterans Tactical Solutions AR-15 .223-caliber rifle.  

Robert Smith, 41, was arrested for unlawful possession of a firearm during the commission of a dangerous felony, unlawful possession of a firearm, and possession of a controlled substance with intent to distribute. Officers made the arrest during a traffic stop at Interstate 240 and Getwell Road and recovered from the vehicle a Ruger P90 .45-caliber handgun, 30 pounds of marijuana, and $17,96 in U.S. currency.

Since the launch of the Memphis Safe Task Force initiative, officers have made 5,758 arrests, including 32 for homicide, 629 for controlled substances, 496 for firearms violations, and 84 for sex offenses. Of those arrested, 164 have been juveniles. The task force has seized 943 illegal firearms. These enforcement actions reflect a sustained commitment to reducing violent crime and removing dangerous weapons from Memphis neighborhoods. 

Launched in September 2025, the Memphis Safe Task Force is a multi-agency initiative to combat violent crime in Memphis. Composed of federal, state, and local law enforcement, as well as the Tennessee National Guard, the task force is focused on arresting violent criminals, clearing warrants, seizing firearms, and locating missing children. Since the operation began, the MSTF has located 148 missing children.

This operation reflects the Memphis Safe Task Force’s commitment to coordinated enforcement efforts and its mission to identify, apprehend, and hold accountable those who pose a threat to public safety.
