U.S. Marshals Find Child Reporting Missing in 2023
For immediate release
Lexington, TN – On March 2, 2026, the U.S. Marshals Service (USMS), with assistance from the Metro Nashville Police Department (PD), Lexington Police Department, and the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation (TBI), safely found a 15-year-old female who was reporting missing in Nashville, TN.
On July 2, 2023, a then 13-year-old child was reported missing by a parent to the Metro Nashville Police Department. Metro Nashville PD developed information that the child was possibly in Lexington, TN. Believing that the child was living in Jackson, Lexington police contacted U.S. Marshals for further assistance.
The USMS and TBI conducted surveillance in Jackson and verified where she was living. During the investigation, the USMS learned the child was at an exact location in Lexington. Due to the exigent circumstance, the USMS called Lexington PD who arrived at the location and detained the child until the USMS and TBI arrived on scene. The child was ultimately turned over to the Tennessee Department of Children’s Services.
“A child missing for even one hour is one hour too long,” said Tyreece Miller, U.S. Marshal for the Western District of Tennessee. “After more than two years without this child being where she belongs, we are glad to play a role in her safe return.”
The Justice for Victims of Trafficking Act of 2015 enhanced the U.S. Marshals Service’s authority to assist other law enforcement agencies with the recovery of missing endangered or exploited children. Since 2015, the USMS has located or recovered more than 4,561 missing children. The U.S. Marshals Service will continue to lead the way in a nationwide effort to rescue and recover missing children, thereby aiding in the prevention of human trafficking.
