U.S. Marshals in New Mexico Recover Two Children, Arrest Missouri Man Wanted on Kidnapping Charges

Washington, DC – The U.S. Marshals (USMS) in New Mexico, following a lead from the USMS in Western Missouri on Tuesday, arrested a man wanted by the Nodaway County Sheriff's Office in Missouri for child kidnapping (non-parental).

The fugitive, who had a lengthy criminal history and was known to be armed and dangerous, was suspected of having abducted two children.

Investigators with the Nodaway County Sheriff's Office and the Western Missouri Midwest Violent Fugitive Task Force determined that the fugitive was travelling to Vada, New Mexico, with the abducted children and sent a lead to the to the USMS District of New Mexico, Southwest Investigative Fugitive Team (SWIFT).

When SWIFT members located and observed the fugitives’ vehicle come to a stop in Chaparral, New Mexico, they apprehended him and recovered the missing children safely at that location.  

Children, Youth and Families Department of New Mexico took temporary custody of the two missing children, as well as a third child, who was not considered missing, until arrangements could be made with Missouri authorities for their return.

The fugitive was transported to the Dona Ana County Detention Center, awaiting extradition to Missouri to face the kidnapping charges.

U.S. Marshals Service task forces combine the efforts of federal, state, and local law enforcement agencies to locate and arrest our nation’s most dangerous fugitives.  These task forces are dedicated to reducing violent crime by locating and apprehending wanted criminals. They also serve as the central point for agencies to share information on fugitive matters.  In 2025, the U.S. Marshals arrested 73,323 fugitives, cleared 87,984 warrants, which averaged out to around 293 fugitives arrested per day in 2025 alone.
