Operation Denton 2020

For immediate release

Denton, TX – On August 3, 2020 the Denton Police Department, along with the United States Marshals Service, and partnering agencies conducted operation "Denton 2020," a two-day city-wide sex offender compliance check, which yielded contacts with 146 registered sex offenders.

On August 3, 2020, Denton Police Department Detectives who are assigned to the Joint East Texas Fugitive Task Force (JETFTF) where conducting a compliance check on Kevin Kelly (FID# 11154609) at the Desert Sands Motor Inn located at 611 N. Interstate 35 Denton, Texas 76205. Kelly is required to register in Texas for life stemming from his convictions of possession of child pornography and indecency with a child by sexual contact.

While conducting the compliance check on Kelly, Joint East Fugitive Task Force personnel found another adult female inside the residence. It was quickly determined that the female was mentally challenged and had been reported missing since January 2020 from a woman's group home in Denton, Texas. The woman had an active protective order against Kelly, who had been accused of sexually assaulting her in the past and was suspected of being directly involved in her disappearance.

Kelly was arrested without incident and booked into the Denton County Jail for violating the court protective order.
