Captured After 19 Years on the Run

Houston, TX – Juan Toribio Guevara was captured Wednesday by members of the Gulf Coast Violent Offenders Task Force (GCVOTF) in Houston, Texas after being a fugitive on the run for more than 19 years.

Guevara, 64, was wanted by the Lone Star Fugitive Task Force (LSFTF) in Alpine, Texas after a warrant was issued for his arrest in March 2001. Guevara allegedly failed to appear in court and quickly went into hiding while facing charges for possession with the intent to distribute marijuana.

Through years of investigative efforts, task force officers tracked Guevara across state lines as far as Illinois and the Mexican border. Guevara was finally located at a residence in the 10000 block of Ell Road in Houston. Guevara was arrested without incident and is currently being held in custody while awaiting extradition to Alpine.

"I'm truly proud of the resilient investigative efforts displayed by the deputies and task force officers involved in this case," said U.S. Marshal Susan Pamerleau. "Fugitives may run to avoid prosecution, but they quickly learn that they can't outrun justice."
