Memphis Safe Task Force Update: 16 Arrested, 5 Illegal Firearms Seized

Memphis, TN – The Memphis Safe Task Force (MSTF) on Thursday executed 16 criminal arrests and seized five more illegal firearms.
Of note:
MSTF members responding to a request for assistance from Memphis Police Department (MPD) – Homicide Division in the 3200 block of Amselle Circle arrested a 15-year-old for first-degree murder in connection with the Jan. 28 death of his brother. MSTF transported the juvenile to MPD-Homicide for interviews and follow-on booking.
Deonta Jones, 39, was arrested for possession of a handgun by a convicted felon, burglary, possession with intent to sell a controlled substance, and theft of property ($10,000-$60,000). MSTF members executed a search warrant following the arrest in the 2700 block of Filmore Avenue and recovered a 9 mm handgun, $1,207, 100 oxycodone pills, 3.45 pounds of marijuana and 34.9 grams of cocaine.
Courtney Bobo, 20, was arrested for possession of a prohibited weapon and possession of a conversion device. While responding to a separate call for service for a suicidal subject, MSTF members observed three men on the side of the road and heard three gunshots coming from the group. MSTF activated emergency lights and observed Bobo throwing an object into the snow. MSTF members exited their vehicle and took Bobo and another man into custody. The third man fled. A search of the area resulted in the recovery of a 9 mm handgun with a conversion switch, three spent rounds and an extended magazine.
Since the launch of the Memphis Safe Task Force initiative, officers have made 5,602 arrests and seized 915 illegal firearms, as well as substantial quantities of narcotics, and related contraband. These enforcement actions reflect a sustained commitment to reducing violent crime and removing dangerous weapons from Memphis neighborhoods.
Launched in September 2025, the Memphis Safe Task Force is a multi-agency initiative to combat violent crime in Memphis. Composed of federal, state, and local law enforcement, as well as the Tennessee National Guard, the task force is focused on arresting violent criminals, clearing warrants, seizing firearms, and locating missing children. Since the operation began, the MSTF has located 148 missing children.
This operation reflects the Memphis Safe Task Force’s commitment to coordinated enforcement efforts and its mission to identify, apprehend, and hold accountable those who pose a threat to public safety.
