Washington, DC – The U.S. Marshals Service (USMS) Director Gadyaces S. Serralta and United States Attorney for the District of Columbia (USADC) Jennine Pirro announced an intensive summer surge for Operation D.C. Safe and Beautiful today during a press conference with Assistant Attorney General Colin McDonald.
Serralta laid out how every federal agency currently taking part in the D.C. Task Force is going to assist in the summer surge. The Marshals Service will surge more resources to ensure everyone committing crimes will be arrested.
“The American people gave us a clear mandate to Make America Safe Again, and today I am proud to say that thanks to the leadership of our President and the DC Safe Task Force, Americans can walk around our beautiful capital again without having to worry that they will be the victim of a crime,” said Director Serralta. He continued, “We are not done making D.C. safe! We will be turning up the heat on criminals all summer long in Washington, D.C. We will continue to make D.C. a safer place for Americans to live, work, and visit.”
He specifically mentioned that the Drug Enforcement Agency will be allocating more resources to every district in the city and that Alcohol Tobacco and Firearms will increase targeting on violent criminals and gun traffickers operating in and around our nation’s capital. As of today, the DC Task Force has seized over 1,400 illegally possessed firearms.
Homeland Security Investigations will focus on fraud and will use intelligent-based, targeted investigations to follow the money, uncovering fake identities and grifters taking advantage of the systems meant for people in legitimate need.
Assistant Attorney General Colin M. McDonald for the National Fraud Enforcement Division thanked law enforcement for being extraordinary public servants and added that this surge would ensure the events of our nations 250th birthday would be safe.
“Make no mistake, thanks to the DC Safe and Beautiful Task Force and the relentless work of our law enforcement partners, we have made real progress in Washington, D.C.,” said Assistant Attorney General Colin M. McDonald for the National Fraud Enforcement Division. “Arrests are up, violent crime is down, and criminals are being taken off the streets. But we are not done, not yet.”
USADC Pirro also added that her office has worked tirelessly to make sure those that are charged with crimes get convicted of those crimes.
“Since coordinated operations began in August 2025, this engagement has become one of the largest modern joint law enforcement collaborations in history — delivering dramatic reductions in violent crime across the District,” said U.S. Attorney Pirro. “Homicides are down 50 percent, and robberies are down 42 percent — results that represent lives saved, families protected, and neighborhoods reclaiming peace and stability. Since taking office, I have secured over 7,000 convictions involving homicide, illegal firearms, narcotics trafficking, robbery, carjacking, and violent crime, and my office will continue using every available tool to hold offenders accountable and keep Washington, D.C. safe.”
The National Guard will also be increasing the number of personnel deployed to the city to provide high visibility and support to law enforcement so they can focus on their duties.
Serralta summarized the success of the task force to date by noting that among the near 13,000 arrests so far, those included 32 wanted for homicide.
Both Serralta and Pirro reassured that those who live, work, and visit the capital for the 250th Anniversary celebrations, will be safer than ever before due to the commitment of the administration and all law enforcement agencies participating in the D.C. Safe and Beautiful Task Force.
