U.S. Marshals Arrest Fugitive for March 30 Shooting of 2-Year-Old Boy

New York, NY – The U.S. Marshals (USMS) Southern District of New York (SDNY) Warrant Squad, along with the USMS New York/New Jersey Regional Fugitive Task Force (NY/NJ RFTF) and the New York Police Department (NYPD), today arrested a man alleged to have been involved in a March 30 Bronx shooting incident that resulted in a 2-year-old boy being shot in the hip.

Freddy Flores is alleged to fired multiple rounds at a group of men standing in front of the Capital One Bank near East Fordham Road and the Grand Concourse in the Bronx. Avoiding the hail of bullets, the men ran across the street toward TD Bank, and the crossfire gravely wounded a 2-year-old boy in the hip as he was walking with his mother. The boy was taken to Jacobi Hospital in stable condition where he will undergo surgery.

After the crime was reported March 30, the USMS SDNY Warrant Squad and NY/NJ RFTF quickly adopted the case, working closely with the NYPD to develop information that led investigators to an apartment complex near the 52nd Precinct in the Bronx, where at approximately 3 p.m. today Flores was identified, apprehended and turned over to the NYPD detective squad for further questioning and processing.

Ralph Sozio, the U.S. Marshal for the Southern District of New York, praised the outstanding effort. “Deputies and Task Force Officers from SDNY, the Marshals task force and NYPD had to quickly work surveillance this afternoon, leading to his quick arrest without incident.  When you shoot innocent children, we will use all of our collective law enforcement resources to track you and bring you to justice,” he said.
