Greensboro, NC - A fugitive wanted in Puerto Rico on serious drug trafficking charges was arrested today by the U.S. Marshals Service Middle District of North Carolina and the Carolinas Regional Fugitive Task Force, with technical assistance from the Puerto Rico Violent Offenders Task Force.

Miguel A. Pérez Camacho was taken into custody after authorities executed an active arrest warrant issued by the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico. Pérez Camacho is charged with violations of Puerto Rico’s Controlled Substances Act and is facing a bail amount of $300,000.

According to court documents, Pérez Camacho is accused of acting jointly and in concert with another individual to illegally possess and distribute controlled substances in Adjuntas, Puerto Rico. Authorities allege that on June 22, 2024, the defendants possessed 158 individually packaged bags of cocaine (crack) with the intent to distribute, without legal authorization.

The case was initially referred by the Puerto Rico Police Bureau to the Puerto Rico Violent Offenders Task Force. Task force investigators provided intelligence development and technical assistance that supported the successful apprehension of the fugitive outside Puerto Rico.

The arrest was conducted by members of the USMS Middle District of North Carolina and the Carolinas Regional Fugitive Task Force, following coordinated interdistrict efforts.
Pérez Camacho is currently in custody and will face extradition proceedings to Puerto Rico to face the charges filed against him.

Authorities emphasized that continued collaboration between federal and local partners remains critical in locating and apprehending fugitives who flee Puerto Rico to evade prosecution.

Formed Jan. 26, 2018, the U.S. Marshals Carolinas Regional Fugitive Task Force mission is to locate and apprehend fugitives, with priority given to fugitives wanted for violent crime. With its primary office in Charlotte, North Carolina, the CRFTF operates throughout North Carolina and South Carolina. Since its inception the CRFTF has arrested more than 14,000 fugitives.
