U.S. Marshals Fugitive Task Force Apprehends Suspect Sought in Deadly Hit and Run Accident

Austin, TX – Members of the U.S. Marshals-led Lone Star Fugitive Task Force Thursday evening arrested a man sought by Leander Police for an accident involving personal injury or death that occurred on Aug 26.

Jose Luis Gonzalez, 32, of Austin was wanted for leaving the scene of a vehicular accident at the intersection of Hero Way and Frontage Road of 183A Toll Road in Leander, where three individuals were injured, and two individuals were killed.  

The Leander Police Department initiated an investigation and identified Gonzalez as the driver of the Chevrolet SUV, who was last described by witnesses to be wearing a black shirt, walking southbound on the frontage road sidewalk. 

Leander authorities obtained an arrest warrant on Aug 27 in a Magistrates Court in Williamson County and requested assistance from the Lone Star Fugitive Task Force (LSFTF) in the Austin Division to locate Gonzalez.

Members of the LSFTF conducted a fugitive investigation and arrested Gonzalez at an apartment complex located in the 900 block Bedford Street in Austin, Texas. 

Gonzalez was transported and booked into the Williamson County Jail where he will await further judicial proceedings.
