U.S. Marshals in Iowa Arrest Suspect Connected to Mississippi Shooting Death

Cedar Rapids, IA – U.S. Marshals on Monday arrested a man in Iowa who is wanted connection to a March 14 shooting death in Lexington, Mississippi. 

Cordale Lashaun Thomas, 17, is wanted in wanted in Holmes County, Mississippi, on charges of accessory after fact. Thomas had been released on bond erroneously after initial apprehension.

On April 24 U.S. Marshals in Mississippi contacted U.S. Marshals in the Northern District of Iowa requesting assistance in the location and apprehension of Thomas, as they believed he was in Iowa. Task Force officers began to follow up on leads and developed information that Thomas was in Waterloo.

Officers with the Northern Iowa Fugitive Task Force today narrowed their search to an area on the east side of Waterloo. Shortly before 6 p.m., U.S. Marshals approached Thomas in the 400 Block of Bratnober Street in Waterloo. Thomas was taken into custody without incident and transported to the Black Hawk County Jail where he will remain in custody until extradition to Mississippi.

The U.S. Marshals Service is the federal government’s primary agency for fugitive investigations. Nationwide, 60 local task forces are dedicated to violent crime reduction by locating and apprehending wanted criminals. These task forces also serve as the central point for agencies to share information on fugitive matters. The Northern Iowa Fugitive Task Force is comprised of officers from the U.S. Marshals Service, Cedar Rapids Police Department, Waterloo Police Department, Marion Police Department, the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation, and the Iowa Department of Corrections.
