U.S. Marshals Task Force Arrest NJ Man Accused of Assaulting Woman, Injuring Infant

Toledo, OH – This afternoon, members of the Northern Ohio Violent Fugitive Task Force (NOVFTF) arrested Byron Jovel-Barquero, 20. Jovel-Barquero was wanted by the Long Branch City Police Department, located in Monmouth County New Jersey, for aggravated assault.

On August 20, 2023, it is alleged that Jovel-Barquero physically assaulted a female, who was holding a four-month-old baby. The adult female and the infant both suffered injuries. The infant is currently at a hospital in New Jersey, being treated for severe and potentially life-threatening brain injuries. Investigators determined that Jovel-Barquero fled New Jersey to the Toledo, Ohio Area.

This afternoon, members of the U.S. Marshals fugitive task force in Toledo arrested Jovel-Barquero at a residence near the 4700 block of Overland Parkway, Toledo, Ohio.

U.S. Marshal Pete Elliott stated, “The U.S. Marshals Service takes crimes against children very seriously, and it is our priority to find those responsible and bring them to justice.”
