U.S. Marshal Dennis Matulewicz

Dennis Matulewicz took the oath of office as the Attorney General designated United States Marshal (USM) for the District of Massachusetts on January 20, 2026, and is responsible for all United States Marshals Service law enforcement and administrative activities in Massachusetts, including fugitive investigations, criminal investigations, judicial security, and enforcement of federal court orders. USM Matulewicz also provides strategic command and cross-government coordination to protect the federal judiciary and enhance public safety throughout the Commonwealth.

Prior to taking his oath of office, USM Matulewicz served as a special agent for twenty-two years and most recently as an Assistant Special Agent in Charge (ASAC) with the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) where he was the highest-ranking special agent located out of the Massachusetts Office and the second highest ranking special agent out of the Northeast Region, consisting of New England and New York. As ASAC, he was directly responsible for overseeing and directing all Northeast Region personnel and all law enforcement and administrative activities within the Northeast Region area of operation. USM Matulewicz was recognized with numerous awards during his tenure as a DOJ special agent, having received, among others, two Distinguished Service Awards, an Award for Excellence in Investigations, an Award for Excellence in Evaluations, the Sentner Award for Dedication and Courage, the U.S. Attorney’s Office Outstanding Collaborative Investigation Award, and the U.S. Attorney General’s Distinguished Service Award.

USM Matulewicz began his law enforcement career with the U.S. Department of Defense (DOD) where he was assigned to the Northeast Field Office in Massachusetts, the European Field Office in Germany, and the Southwest Asia Office in Kuwait. While serving in Southwest Asia, USM Matulewicz was deployed to locations such as Iraq and Afghanistan in support of the warfighter and war effort. USM Matulewicz received numerous awards with the DOD, including, among others, the Sentner Award for Dedication and Courage, the Operation Iraqi Freedom Award, and the Secretary of Defense Medal for the Global War on Terrorism.

USM Matulewicz earned a bachelor’s degree in political science from Rutgers University in New Brunswick, New Jersey, where he was a highly decorated NCAA Division I student-athlete and two-year team captain, and where he received, among others, the Leadership, Most Valuable Player, and Scholar Athlete of the Year awards. He earned a master’s degree in criminal justice from Saint Joseph’s University in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, where he graduated with highest honors.
