Terry J. Moore, Acting U.S. Marshal for the Northern District of West Virginia

Terry J. Moore was designated to serve as the Acting United States Marshal for the Northern District of West Virginia by Attorney General Merrick Garland on July 30, 2021.

Acting Marshal Moore began his law enforcement career with the United States Marshals Service in 2006 as a Deputy U.S. Marshal assigned to the District of Maryland. In 2009, Acting Marshal Moore transferred to the Northern District of West Virginia. During his time in the field as a Deputy U.S. Marshal, Acting Marshal Moore was assigned to a variety of duties including fugitive investigations, criminal investigations, high threat trials, and protection details. Acting Marshal Moore was promoted to the Supervisory Deputy United States Marshal for the Northern District of West Virginia in 2014 and supervised offices in Clarksburg, Elkins, and Wheeling. He supervised multiple aspects of the district’s operational responsibilities including investigative and prisoner operations. In 2020, Acting Marshal Moore was selected as the Chief Deputy United States Marshal of the Northern District of West Virginia.

Acting Marshal Moore is a member of the Fraternal Order of Police, Mountaineer Lodge 78. He is the recipient of multiple distinguished service awards and received the Sheriff's Award of Merit (Harrison County) in 2011.

Acting Marshal Moore was born and raised in Shinnston, WV. He is a 2005 graduate of Fairmont State University with a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice. In 2005, while finishing his degree at Fairmont State, Moore completed the Centralized Student Career Experience Program with the United States Marshals Service.
